Slow start

Hello Again,

Had a slow start to the day slept in and got up at 11:30 so it was brunch but hey it all counts.
I decided on a mix of things to have a laugh so i bought 6 mini danish pastries from the local bakery, 6 sesame oil bread rolls (tiger bread),Honey roasted ham, welsh cheese and a selection of crisps.

Started with the danish to represent breakfast, good old orange juice as well.
Next i have some quality chutney called MRS BALLS a sweet South African recipe, i spread on the rolls and add ham and cheese. The kids love it a great mix of sweet and savory with rich sesame taste, cant go wrong.
We have not made plans for tonight but a Tuna pasta bake is on the cards, simple 2 tins of tuna, penne pasta, cheese sauce and cheese.Basically once pasta is aldente mix it all together and put in the over for 30 min.

I will let you know

टुडे २२ ऑफ़ अक्टूबर 2009

Hello,

Not a good start to the blog cant get the camera to work.
But enjoyed making food tonight.

How i go about cooking day to day....
I don't shop with 30 menus in mind i shop for what i can afford and what looks good.
I estimate about 20 meals for cooking at the stove and the around 7 meals for outside cooking and yes the odd take away or meal out to make up the rest of the month.
So on returning home from work i will start the hunt what meats we have, then what vegetables, with pasta or potatoes or pulses, sauces, spices, marinades and breads.
I then decide on what is the main ingredient for that dish, if i am using pasta its about the sauce. If its meat its all about the marinade. I then start putting the meal together on what will adapt well with the main ingredient. I don't always get it right but we usually have a great meal.

Braai (BBQ) What is a braai you may ask?
I am born in South Africa and its what we call a BBQ ,simple.
If i could afford it i would Braai everyday but my style is over sized and the more the merrier. It is all about the meat at least two different meats.
I also roast/smoke meats and have outdoor stews on my Potjie pot (cauldron pot).
But what i like most about it all is i am outside in my own world no hassle or worries totally chilled.

Enough for today

Welcome to Fatboys Menu

A Blog for my Braai (BBQ) experiences
and
A Blog for everyday cooking experiences.

I Braai (BBQ) all the time and this is my passion and main rason for setting up the blog, but enjoy the everyday experience around cooking.

I dont want to be a chef but want to share what i do and learn from others,
as cookbooks can be overrated and expensive compared to good home cooking.

I cook to relax and forget the day and enjoy getting lost in flavours, arouma and taste.

Cheers to good food
